What to wear, how to rent and where to store your ski equipment
Are you ready to ski in Livigno? You can leave your car in the ski area car park, buy your ski pass online and pick it up at the lift ticket office (or buy it directly at the ticket office), and all you have to do is hit the slopes. But do you have everything you need to ski? Here's what you need and what you just can't forget.
Ski clothing and equipment for Livigno
In Livigno, it is cold in winter, with temperatures often dropping below zero by several degrees (especially at night and in the early morning), but with the sun beating down on the slopes, it can even happen to sweat while skiing, not forgetting that if it snows, temperatures are around zero... In addition, the time of the season to ski must be taken into account, because in Livigno it is much colder in January than in March (the ski season lasts until late spring), and thealtitude: Livigno's ski area is very large and it can happen that there is a difference of several degrees between the temperatures on the ski slopes at the bottom of the valley and those at altitude in the Carosello 3000-Sitas and Mottolino ski areas.
In short, it is important to dress in the correct way for skiing, possibly in layers to avoid suffering from the cold but being able to take off some clothing if the temperature rises.
Standard clothing for skiers in Livigno includes:
- technical underwear, which helps to maintain warmth in contact with the skin at the most sensitive points such as the feet or arms: typically a thermal t ights (or ski socks) and a thermal jersey for winter sports;
- the ski suit, of which there are now many models and versions in the latest technical materials, strictly waterproof but light enough not to impede movement;
- the ski jacket, which helps protect against wind and biting temperatures and has all the necessary pockets, including one for the ski pass;
- ski gloves, suitable for resisting atmospheric agents and providing thermal insulation, and a neck warmer to keep the mouth area warm, also useful for protection in wind or snow.
As for essential ski equipment and accessories:
- ski boots;
- skis and poles/ poles;
- ski helmet, which is compulsory for those under 18 years of age but is strongly recommended for everyone because in addition to protecting from the cold it reduces the risks in the event of an accident on the slopes
- sports sunglasses or a winter ski mask, even when the weather is cloudy in Livigno to avoid being dazzled by the snow.
Ski hire and equipment lockers: Valandrea's services

The Valandrea Ski Area, which has been renovated with the creation of a brand new multi-service facility, offers skiers everything they need to get ready to hit the slopes. If you are looking for a ski hire shop in the centre of Livigno to rent skiing equipment, you can contact our partner Point Rent a Ski, just a few metres from the lift departure point, where you will find skis, snowboards, boots, helmets and other technical equipment for hire, for adults and children.
On the ground floor of the ski area, there is also a large area designed for ski storage, with 80 heated lockers - double or quadruple - where you can store your skis and boots before and after your day on the slopes and your personal belongings while skiing. The ski lockers can be booked conveniently online for one or more consecutive days, are personal and have the added advantage that they can be locked and opened with your ski pass, without keys or additional cards, at any time of the day, even after the Valandrea lifts have closed.
